How to combine and match decorative cushions? 6 tips from interior stylist Noah

Hi, I'm Noah Mencke, interior stylist and ambassador of Kotabo. I love creating coziness and atmosphere in the home. One of my favorite ways to make an interior personal and cozy? Decorative cushions! They not only invite you to snuggle up against them, they also enhance your interior style. Do you find it difficult to choose the right cushions or find a good balance? Then read my tips quickly!

1. Match the cushions with your interior style
Decorative cushions come in all sorts of styles. When choosing, consider your own interior style. Are you going for a bohemian look? Choose decorative cushions in soft colours with details such as fringes, tassels or braided cotton. Do you prefer a rural or minimalist atmosphere? Then opt for grey, white or neutral tones in materials such as linen or wool.

2. Experiment with shapes and sizes
Different shapes and sizes of cushions add depth to your interior. For example, combine large square cushions with smaller rectangular ones. Place the larger cushions at the back and the smaller ones at the front to create a layered, inviting look.

3. Mix colors and textures
Use three, four or five colours to create unity. Let the colours of your interior, such as those of your walls or furniture, come back in the cushions. Add some spice by combining accent colours. Also play with textures: cushions with a pattern, teddy fabric or velvet provide warmth and depth.

4. Create balance
Combining different shapes, colours and materials is all about balance. Repeat colours and materials throughout your interior. For example, do you have a grey sofa? Choose cushions in the same shades for a tone-on-tone effect and coordinate everything for a harmonious whole.

5. Combine cushions with a plaid
Complete your look by combining decorative cushions with a plaid. Choose a plaid that matches your cushions and the rest of your interior in terms of colour and material. Drape it loosely over the sofa for a casual and inviting effect.

6. Be playful and casual
Throw the cushions loosely on the sofa for a playful and relaxed atmosphere. Don't place them too tightly, this can look too stylized. Group them in groups of two or three spread out over the sofa for a cozy and inviting effect.

I hope these tips help you create the perfect pillow combination.

Good luck with styling!
Love Noah Mencke.
